Six hurt in Cavitex mishap

PANTALEON GARCIA, Imus, Cavite- Six persons, including a minor, were seriously injured on Monday when the Multi-cab they were riding rolled over and hit the steel rail at the turn shoulder after being accidentally hit by a speeding car at Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) in Longos, Barangay Digman, Bacoor City, the Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) reported on Tuesday, August 13. Staff Sergeant Edison L. Fetalcurin, case investigator, said that the victims' green Suzuki-rebuilt Multi-cab (TIU 189) was totally wrecked in the accident that happened at 11:30 a.m. Responding Public Estates Authority Tollway Corp. (PEATC) officers arrested Nathaniel Hallere Mendez, 42, driver of a black Toyota Fortuner Wagon (ZEL 479) that struck the Multi-Cab. Mendez was turned over to the Bacoor police. Those injured were identified as Joseph de los Santos, 28, the Multi-Cab driver; Miriam Cababag, 39, Remedios Landicho, 52, Eden de los Santos, 29, Eden Rose Delina, 23, and Sofia Joy Delina, 3, all residents of General Trias City, Cavite. All the victims with body injuries were brought to the Saint Dominic Hospital for treatment, Fetalcurin said. Initial police investigation showed that the car driven by Mendez hit the Multi-cab while overtaking another vehicle along the expressway lane to Baclaran. The impact caused the Multi-cab to go wayward and overturn at the rail shoulder. Investigator Fetalcurin said that a charge of reckless imprudence resulting in serious physical injuries and damage to property would be filed against Mendez who was detained at the police station. Meanwhile, a man died also on Monday morning when the tricycle he was driving collided with a van at an intersection on Governors Drive in Barangay Cabilang Baybay, Carmona town. Bernardino Memije Tenedero, 55. a resident of Cabilang Baybay, succumbed to body injuries at the Carmona Hospital and Medical Center. Police said that Tenedero and his tricycle was hit by a Mistsubishi L-300 van driven by Stephen Takoyan Malayon at 8 a.m. Malayon was arrested and brought to the police station.
