After several hours of waiting, the Session Hall at the seventh floor of Pasig City Hall erupted with cheers and applause as Vico Sotto was finally proclaimed as the new Pasig City mayor.

The 29-year-old Sotto (AKSYON) fulfilled his campaign slogan “Iba Naman” after defeating incumbent Mayor Robert “Bobby” Eusebio (NP) with a leading 206,226 votes.
“Glory to god! Thank you Jesus,” actress Connie Reyes, mother of Vico, exclaimed after raising her son’s hand in jubilation.
Roman Romulo (AKSYON), on the other hand, will return to Congress to represent the lone district of Pasig City after winning against incumbent Rep. Ricky Eusebio (NP).
Romulo triumphed over Eusebio by a whopping 221,779 votes.
Meanwhile, incumbent Vice Mayor Bernard Caruncho (PDP-Laban) retained his post and easily claimed victory with 266,620 votes after running unopposed.
Despite the significant lead of Sotto and Romulo as of Tuesday midnight, the proclamation of the victors did not immediately happen.
Instead, the proclamation wouldn’t come for another 12 hours as everybody waited for the approval of the Commission on Elections regional office on the motion made by the tandem’s camp to lower the threshold of proclamation to 90 percent.
When the Board reconvened again around 5:50 a.m., the canvassers said the request was already sent, however, the candidates still have to wait for its approval before they are proclaimed.
The disappointed Sotto said he will wait for the decision and will not leave the City Hall as long as they are not proclaimed as winners.
“Hindi ako aalis sa seventh floor na ito ng City Hall hangga’t di kami na pro-proclaim ni Congressman Roman Romulo (I am not leaving the seventh floor of the City Hall as long as Congressman Roman Romulo are not proclaimed),” he said.
Supporters, as well as the media, spent the night at the Session Hall waiting for the release of the decision where its release time was not specified.
Demand for a manual count
A group of Eusebio supporters trooped outside the City Hall while the proclamation of Sotto was ongoing.
They were demanding for a manual recount of the votes despite the approximately 100,000 vote lead of Sotto.
Pasig Police were deployed to control the protesters, while for the meantime, no one was allowed to enter the government building. #MatalinongBoto2019
