Cotabato Archbishop Quevedo welcomes Bishop Lampon as successor

(KEITH BACONGCO / MANILA BULLETIN FILE PHOTO) The cardinal believes Pope Francis chose well with the appointment of Lampon who like him had a long experience on interreligious dialogue. "The Holy Father has chosen well," said Quevedo in an interview. "Like me he has had a long experience of Interreligious dialogue with Muslims," he added. Quevedo said he is praying for Archbishop-elect Lampon. Pope Francis appointed Lampon Tuesday on the day he accepted the resignation of Cardinal Quevedo. "I thank our Holy Father Pope Francis most deeply for accepting my resignation as Archbishop of Cotabato," said Quevedo. As mandated by Church Law, the cardinal wrote his letter of resignation when he reached the age of 75 in 2014. The letter has been at the Vatican for almost 5 years. "After 20 years of service as Archbishop in Bangsamoro territory, hand over the ministry Servant Leadership to my successor Archbishop-Elect Angelito Lampon of Jolo," said Quevedo. "I thank almighty God most deeply for having given me the grace to work with Muslims and peoples of other faiths as partners working for peace," he added.
