BI deports 9 Japanese fugitives involved in telco fraud

By Jun Ramirez The Bureau of Immigration (BI) deported Wednesday nine more Japanese nationals who were part of a syndicate arrested by the bureau’s fugitive search unit (FSU) in November last year for their involvement in a telecommunications fraud scheme in Japan. BI Commissioner Jaime Morente said the Japanese were flown to Tokyo aboard a Japan Airlines flight from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal The deportees were identified as Kubo Takumi, Fukata Yuji, Shirai Yoshiki, Tsujimura Koki, Miyauchi Ryunsuke, Sendai Masanori, Miyake Hiroshi, Yamaguchi Shouta, and Ken Kamitani. The group is the second batch of deportees from among 36 Japanese nationals arrested in Makati City last Nov. 13 by BI-FSU agents. Morente said the deportation of the others remaining at the BI Detention Center in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig has yet to be finalized. Immigration agents caught the 36 aliens operating a voice phishing racket victimizing Japanese citizens. The combined losses of the victims amounted to more than 2 billion yen or about US$18 million.
