The city of Manila landed on the top spot in a travel platform’s list of places Filipinos have visited the most in 2019.

According to Agoda’s list released on Friday, the country’s capital is followed by Cebu, Boracay, Baguio, Palawan, Tagaytay, Davao City, and Bohol, in the Top 8 list and proving that domestic travel remains as the top travel option for Filipinos this year.
After its 2018 closure for its rehabilitation, Boracay Island sprang back into the rankings, emerging as a new entrant on the list at number three. The island briefly closed last April 26, 2018 for its rehabilitation and redevelopment. It was reopened after six months on October 26, 2018.
Manila Mayor Francisco Isko Moreno Domagoso thanked the Filipinos who continue to visit the nation’s capital.
“Maraming salamat po sa mga Pilipinong bumibisita muli sa Lungsod ng Maynila. We are starting to reap the fruits of our efforts. We must now focus on maintaining what we have begun,” Domagoso said.
“Nananawagan ako sa lahat na patuloy na makipagtulungan para sa isang malinis at maayos na kapaligiran. Mas maaliwalas ang lungsod, mas madami ang turismo. Mas madami ang turismo, mas madaming trabaho at progreso,” he added.
For the fourth year, travelers are also planning to flock to the capital city of Manila as it also topped the list for the most booked cities for New Year's Eve.
When traveling internationally for their New Year’s Eve celebrations, Filipinos choose Asian destinations close to home such as Tokyo (#3), Taipei (#5), Osaka (#7) and Hong Kong (#9).
After a hiatus, Boracay Island is back in action and has jumped up the rankings is bagging the 4th most popular New Year’s Eve travel destinations for Filipinos (as compared to #9 last year).
Among international destinations, Hong Kong (#9) and Tokyo (#10) were the only cities to enter the ranks.
