2019 SMDC Sportsfest will be bigger and better

With the goal of promoting work-life balance, SMDC is set to kick off a bigger and better 2019 edition of its annual Sports Festival this weekend. Six teams from different SMDC departments are participating in this year's competition, which shall now include more events like billiards, table tennis, and darts on top of major sports like basketball and volleyball. "Our mission is to improve camaraderie among employees," said commissioner and SMDC Vice President Erickberth Calupe. "We have made improvements and put emphasis on making sure everything is smooth and stress-free for our employees." Additionally, the cheerdance and streetdance competition shall be up for grabs while Mr. and Ms. Sportsfest trophies shall be given on opening day. Not only is the sportsfest a chance to buck off stress and perform for respective sporting events, but also an opportunity to develop better relationships among employees. "We encourage the teams to really participate as this is their chance to meet the employees from the other departments and hopefully meet new friends. This is also a good venue to establish connections and network amongst employees which they can use at work since all departments are linked in SMDC," said Calupe. Moving forward, the organizers hope to expand the SMDC Sportsfest tournament even further and generate more participation from their employees. "We want to make it more competitive and if possible, increase the number of teams," said Calupe. "We also to establish clubs that will aim to improve the skills of employees and teach those that would like to learn a specific sport."
