National Capital Region Police Office chief C/Supt. Oscar David Albayalde(CAMILLE ANTE / MANILA BULLETIN) Albayalde will replace PNP chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa who is expected to retire from an extended service late this month.
“That’s why I told Crame, may bago tayong chief PC . I'm going to announce it now, it's Albayalde. Sabi ko sa kanya lakihan mo yung presuhan mo ," the President said in his remarks during an agriculture event in Malacañang.
"Albayalde is the man for you so the stricter, the better," he added.
Duterte admitted that he consulted with some people from Davao about the three nominees including Albayalde for the top PNP post. He said they preferred another nominee since the NCRPO chief was supposedly too strict.
Apart from the appointment of a new police chief, Duterte admitted that the country will also have a new military chief soon.
"I think we have a new chief of staff but I am not at liberty at this time to make the announcement," he said.
Albayalde, a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) class of 1986, was appointed NCRPO chief in July 2016. He previously served as Executive Officer, Directorate for Plans as well as Pampanga Provincial Police Office Director.
Dela Rosa is scheduled to retire from his extended service on April 21.
He was supposed to retire last January but the President decided to extend his service until April. Duterte said he would appoint Dela Rosa as the next head of the Bureau of Corrections after his term extension.
