PNP chief: No proof of Cebu mayor drug links

Sadongdong The Philippine National Police (PNP) chief said there is no evidence linking Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmena to illegal drugs, as claimed by Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre III. Director General Ronald dela Rosa said Cebu City is not even in the PNP’s updated drugs watch list, "So far, we don't have . SOJ (Secretary of Justice) has his own . His basis is the of a surrendered drug personality who is the cousin of alias Jaguar, the biggest drug lord in Cebu," Dela Rosa said. Dela Rosa was referring to Aguirre's statement that Reynaldo "Jumbo" Diaz executed an affidavit in which he said Osmeña got P2 million in 2013 and P5 million in 2016 from his cousin, Jeffrey Diaz alias Jaguar. Reynaldo was arrested by police in Matnog, Sorsogon, in September 2016 but Dela Rosa said he was turned over to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). "We arrested him in a beach resort in Sorsogon only to find out that he had already surrendered to the so we brought him to them," Dela Rosa said. "So we did not receive any information (on Reynaldo), we do not have any right now. They (NBI) are the ones who have)," he added. Aguirre and Osmeña has been trading accusations in the past weeks after the mayor called for the Aguirre’s resignation over the dismissal of drug charges against suspected drug personalities Rolando "Kerwin" Espinosa Jr., Peter Lim, and about 20 others. Osmena threatened to file a disbarment case against Aguirre, who labeled the mayor as a protector of drug lords. Aside from the PNP, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) also said it has no information linking Osmena to drug trafficking. The NBI is an agency under the DOJ.
