Duterte reappoints Joker Arroyo nephew to PhilHealth

By Argyll Cyrus Geducos President Duterte has reappointed physician Jack Arroyo Jr., nephew of the late senator Joker Arroyo, as new members of the board of directors of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).

(TOTO LOZANO/PRESIDENTIAL PHOTO / MANILA BULLETIN) In official Palace documents released Thursday, Duterte named Arroyo as a board member representing the elected local chief executives. His appointment paper was signed Monday. Arroyo will be serving the unexpired term of Eddie Dorotan which is until June 30 of this year. According to Bloomberg Research, Arroyo has been an Independent Director of SMC Global Power Holdings Corp. since September 2, 2011. He also served asÂ Director of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, Philippine Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the ASEAN Eye Center Association and Casino Espanol de Manila. Arroyo is aÂ Medical Doctor and Ophthalmologist by profession and is affiliated with The American Eye Center, The Medical City, and Eye Referral Center. He also used to beÂ president of the American Eye Center. In May 2015, Arroyo was accused of being a dummy for then Vice President Jejomar Binay during the Senate's investigation on the alleged financial impropriety and corruption of the former Makati City Mayor and his family. Arroyo was said to have owned a 20-percent share in the 2003 joint venture between the University of Makati and Systems Technology Institute to operate a nursing school in the city university. The Senate had ordered Arroyo's arrest for snubbing Senate inquiries. Arroyo, however, contested the order, saying only a judge can issue an arrest warrant.
