MMFF to announce official entries of first summer Metro Manila filmfest on March 2

By Jel Santos The official entries of the first-ever summer Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) will be announced on March 2, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said on Friday. He reminded filmmakers they have until Feb. 15 to submit their entries in finished film formats. According to MMDA, the MMFF selection committee will choose eight official entries based on the following criteria: artistic excellence, 40 percent; commercial appeal, 40 percent; Filipino cultural sensibility, 10 percent; and global appeal, 10 percent. “We look forward to the success of the MMSFF, a spin-off of the annual MMFF held every December, to encourage Filipino filmmakers to create more films and showcase the cinematic artistry and talents of the members of the Filipino movie industry,” Lim said in a statement. MMFF said the official entries for the summer edition will be shown in cinemas from April 11 (Black Saturday) to April 21. Meantime, students who want to join the Student Short Film Competition have until Feb. 28 to submit their entries with “Pinoy Pride” as the theme. Its criteria are: artistic excellence, 70 percent; Filipino cultural sensibility, 20 percent; and global appeal, 10 percent. On April 5 (Palm Sunday), the Summer MMFF Parade of Stars will be held in Quezon City MMFF said floats carrying celebrities of film entries will march from Welcome Rotonda-Quezon Avenue to Quezon Memorial Circle. Its awards night will be held on April 15, MMDA said.
