Davao de Oro confirms first 2 cases of local transmission of COVID-19

DAVAO CITY - The province of Davao de Oro has recorded 13 additional cases of coronavirus disease on Monday, two of which were through local transmission.

The two cases were from the towns of Maragusan and Monkayo.

In a statement, Monkayo Mayor Ramil Gentugaya, chairperson of the local Task Force Against COVID-19, said the patient had close contact with the town’s third confirmed positive case who went out of the Barangay Isolation Unit without permission from the Barangay Health Emergency Response Team.

Gentugaya said the said patient was the fifth confirmed positive case that Monkayo has recorded.

Meanwhile, Maragusan town mayor Maricel Colina-Vendiola said their fourth patient was a 55-year-old woman who resides in Barangay Tigbao.

She said the latest patient had contact with her son who was the third confirmed positive case in the town.

Meanwhile, the three of the new cases were from Laak, two cases each from Pantukan and Mabini, and one case each from Nabunturan, Mawab, Compostela, and New Bataan.

In Compostela town, the latest case was a 21-year-old male from Barangay Siocon who was stranded in Quezon City. The patient arrived via Cebu Pacific flight on July 1, and underwent swab testing on July 10.

In Nabunturan town, the latest case was a 25-year-old woman who was stranded in Pasay, Manila. She arrived in Nabunturan by bus on July 6.

The other local government units have yet to release the profiles of the latest cases they recorded.

Davao de Oro has already recorded a total of 55 confirmed cases, 41 of which are still active cases. The province has also recorded 14 recoveries and zero fatalities.
