Grab PH: use GrabPay for contactless transactions

By Alexandria Dennise San Juan Ride-hailing app Grab Philippines urged users of its food and delivery service platforms to use online payment methods in a bid to minimize personal contact to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). In a statement issued over the week, Grab announced that it expanded its app with new services that are powered by GrabPay to allow more users to get their daily essential needs and keep up with their transactions while still avoiding contact with cash and observing proper distancing protocols. GrabPay, which was rolled out in the country in 2016, is a built-in mobile wallet within the Grab app that allows users to choose a cashless payment method when using the firm's services. Currently, GrabPay can be used to purchase grocery items and other essential needs through its recently launched GrabMart service and for cashless payments for GrabFood orders and GrabExpress deliveries. Through the payment service, Grab has also enabled payment for bills providers such as utility, telco, internet, cable TV, government agencies, among others using their GrabPay balance. Users can also transfer funds using their GrabPay wallet, as well as paying in supermarkets through its 'scan-to-pay' service. GrabPay assured the public that the app uses a "secured technology with a 24/7 fraud detection engine that encrypts and protects personal information and payment transactions." To cash in, users can choose from a variety of cash-in channels such as convenience stores and business centers or through debit and credit cards, online banking, or top-up via an authorized Grab driver.
