Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo with other SC Justices in Cebu City for the award of historical markers to three universities as test sites in the 2020-2021 online Bar examinations.

A total of 10 historical markers has been awarded by the Supreme Court (SC) to universities which were sites of the first ever online and regionalized 2020-2021 Bar examinations conducted last February.

Last Tuesday, Sept. 13, Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo and six other SC justices were in Cebu City and awarded the historical markers to the University of Cebu-Banilad, University of San Carlos, and University of San Jose Recoletos.

With the Chief Justice during the awarding ceremonies held at the City Sports Club Cebu were Senior Associate Justice Marvic M.V.F. Leonen --

chairperson of the 2020/2021 Bar examinations committee – and Associate Justices Amy C. Lazaro-Javier, Rodil V. Zalameda, Jhosep Y. Lopez, Jose Midas P. Marquez; and Justice Antonio T. Kho, Jr.

There were 29 testing centers in 22 local government units nationwide which were sites of the 2020-2021 Bar examinations. The SC will award the historical marker to each of the testing centers.

The SC had decided that incoming Bar examinations will be conducted online and regionalized.

The 2022 Bar examinations will be conducted by the SC on Nov. 9, 13. 16, and 20 this year. Fourteen local testing centers (LTCs) have been chosen by the SC for the examinations.

The SC had also decided to cancel work in the SC, appellate and collegiate courts, and trials courts in the 14 LTCs on Nov. 9 and 16, both Wednesdays.

Division and full courts sessions of the SC have also been ordered suspended from Nov. 5 to 22 “to enable the SC to direct its main resources, time, and work towards the holding of the 2022 Bar examinations.”

This year’s chairperson of the Bar examination committee is Associate Justice Alfredo Benjamin S. Caguioa.

The LTCs for the Bar examinations in the NCR will be in Northern Manila, Southern Manila, Pasay City, Quezon City and Taguig City.

In Luzon, the LTCs are in Baguio City in Benguet, Lipa City in Batangas, and Naga City in Camarines Sur.

Northern Cebu City, Southern Cebu City and Tacloban City in Leyte are the LTCs in the Visayas, while Cagayan de Oro City, Davao City and Zamboanga City are those for Mindanao.

The SC is expected to announced later the actual venues, like universities or colleges, of the Bar examinations in the 14 LTCs.
