More than 80 officers from the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) were fielded to a jungle warfare training with the Philippine Army to equip them with skills they can use once their service is needed for national emergencies like widespread violence and terrorism.

A total of 86 trainees from the Coast Guard joined the organization’s first-ever jungle warfare and mountain operations course (JWMOC) as a part of the implementation of the PCG Service Command Career Path (SECOMCAP).
The one-month training started on July 27 at the grounds of the 2nd Infantry Division (2ID) in Camp Capinpin, Tanay, Rizal.
Under the guidance of Major Michael Andres of the Philippine Army, the trainees of “Parabellum” Class 02 of 2020 will further reinforce their knowledge and skills in jungle warfare, fight against violence and terrorism, as well as peace and development initiatives.
“They are also expected to become more disciplined, adept in military doctrines, policies, and standard operating procedures, as well as skilled in basic weapons and war material operations after the month-long training,” PCG said.
Rear Admiral Joseph Coyme, the Coast Guard Human Resource Management Services commander, said that the PCG, in the event of national emergency, shall be attached to the Department of National Defense to augment its operations.
“Hence, it is high-time for the two uniformed service organizations to enhance interoperability through JWMOC and other similar initiatives,” Coyme said.
The trainees are from the Coast Guard Officers’ Course Class 24 and 25 from Service Command units: Coast Guard Human Resource Management Command (CGHRMC), Coast Guard Intelligence Force (CGIF), and Coast Guard Civil Relations Service (CGCRS).
Coyme and Commodore Armando Balilo, Coast Guard spokesman, sent off the trainees during the commencement of the one-month training.
Lieutenant Colonel Jose Del Rosario, Army commandant, and Lieutenant Colonel Jeriko Roman Sasing, assistant chief of staff for Education and Training of the Army, were present during the event.
