IN PICTURES: Emo Night Manila 2024 kicks off with punk rock classics

"Make Emo Great Again."

This is the battle cry of organizers of the largest emo and pop punk party this country has ever seen: Emo Night Manila (ENM).

The event, held last Sept. 7 at the Brooklyn Warehouse Manila, featured DJs Fahmy and Polina from Emo Night Bangkok.

According to ENM founder Sarah Spooner, the event is meant to bring together emo and pop-punk fans for an unforgettable night of music and camaraderie following a successful anniversary celebration in June.

"Emo music is such a community-driven genre, and having this kind of event has been able to bring in collaborations from Emo Nights Bangkok, and they have also been touring as well. This event has been really a huge experience for us," said Sarah in an interview.

DJs Fahmy and Polina were happy to be part of the gathering, noting the energy of the local crowd.

ENM actually started in a small Poblacion bar as an intimate gathering.

It was born alongside the recent emo revival, with the return of beloved bands like Saosin, Simple Plan, Silverstein, Boys Like Girls, and Fall Out Boy to Manila.

It has since evolved into one of Manila's most anticipated events, consistently selling out and now drawing attendees of up to 900 guests.

ENM highlighted the Filipinos' undying love for the genre, with a good number of millennials attending the gig, reliving their teenage years.

There are some Gen-Z's too, catching the excitement of emo culture for the first time.

ENM is more than just a party; it’s a welcoming and accepting space where personal expression thrives.

It offers a rare opportunity to embrace alternative culture and fashion in an open and inclusive setting.
