DOLE advances 'green' jobs with regional, global initiatives

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has intensified what it described as green jobs agenda through regional programs and global partnerships to promote sustainable employment opportunities.

In a recent meeting, DOLE regional directors reviewed the progress of green job initiatives and compliance with relevant regulations.

DOLE Undersecretary Benedicto Ernesto R. Bitonio, Jr., underscored the importance of collaboration among government agencies, industry, and the academe to develop a skilled green workforce.

He emphasized the need to align educational and training programs with emerging sectors such as renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and ecotourism.

Institute for Labor Studies Executive Director Jeanette Damo noted that preparing a green-ready workforce is a central goal of the Philippine Development Plan and the Labor and Employment Plan for 2023-2028.

Significant steps by DOLE include launching a green occupations database and contributing to a Joint Memorandum Circular (JMC) on green job certification.

On the international front, DOLE's partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO) seeks to update the National Green Jobs Human Resource Development Plan.
