Malaysia’s top diplomat is expected to visit the Philippines this year as both countries are pursuing stronger cooperation on the 60th year of their diplomatic relations.
Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan is planning to visit Manila by July, according to Malaysian Embassy in Manila’s Deputy Chief of Mission Mohd Fareed Zakaria.
“I can say that there's a plan for the Foreign Minister of Malaysia to come to the Philippines,” Zakaria said at an event in the Malaysian embassy Thursday, June 6.
He said Hasan’s visit will be the highlight of the celebrations of the two countries’ diplomatic anniversary.
“We will have a big program for him,” Zakaria said.
Zakaria could not specify Hasan’s activities yet, but his visit would focus on tackling “wide-ranging subjects.”
Meanwhile, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Enrique Manalo said he received a phone call from Hasan on Wednesday.
“We reiterated the need to sustain the momentum of the high level exchanges we had in 2023 and we looked forward to the celebratory activities we have in store this year,” he said.
"I invited him for an official visit to the Philippines this year at a mutually convenient date," he added.
