Miss Universe 2023 Sheynnis Palacios became emotional during her homecoming motorcade at the iconic SM Mall of Asia (MOA) grounds in Pasay City on Sunday, May 5. This poignant display of emotion was a testament to the significance of her journey and the love she holds for her homeland.

Just before the motorcade, a devoted fan presented Sheynnis with the Nicaraguan flag, symbolizing her homeland. She clutched it tightly, her emotions welling up as the moment's significance washed over her. The motorcade kicked off at 5:23 p.m. Sheynnis rode a convertible adorned with white, yellow, and blue flowers.

"Thank you for believing in me because you made my dream come true. Gracias, Filipinas!" Sheynnis told the cheering crowd. "Sheynnis Palacios Cornejo, Nicaragua!" as she made the sign of the cross.

Sheynnis, 23, is the first woman from Nicaragua to hold the Miss Universe title. Since her crowning as Miss Universe in El Salvador in November 2023, the beauty queen has not been able to return home due to her busy schedule.

The Nicaraguan beauty queen arrived in the country on May 1 for an Asian tour. For the past few days, Sheynnis has impressed Filipino fans with her charm and humility.

On Friday, Sheynnis inspired the children of Hope for Change, a program under Gawad Kalinga, during a visit in Tondo, Manila. Her words, "I want to tell you to please believe in all your dreams because dreams come true when you work hard for them. Believe in your voice; believe in everything you want to do for the future. If the people say no, you continue to work hard with your heart until your dreams come true."

The grand coronation of the 2024 Miss Universe Philippines pageant will be held at the MOA on May 22. Actor Alden Richards and Miss Universe 2022 R'Bonney Gabriel will host the competition.
