'FEEL AT HOME NA AKO': Ryan Bang on declining work offer in South Korea

TV host-comedian Ryan Bang recently revealed that a certain South Korean entertainment company once offered him a contract. Ryan shared the story to Direk Lauren Dyogi on Star Magic's YouTube channel. He shared: "Nung close kami ni Ate Dara (Sandara Park), may kinausap sa akin dati 'yung company niya, kinukuha sa akin five years training tapos na-meet ko 'yung Mr. Lee Soo-man, 'yung pinaka-head ng SM. Gusto talaga nila ako 100% doon sa Korea. Nagpunta pa ako SM Town, nag-one-on-one interview pa kami. Interested talaga sila." He continued, "SM ENT 'yun 'yung parang pang-TV, pang-komedyante, pang-host. So gusto nila akong kunin doon. Nung nabasa ko, parang alam mo 'yon, hindi ka bibili ng damit kung hindi mo pa talaga gusto. So parang wala pa sa puso ko na i-grab ko ang chance." Ryan declined the offer mainly because he felt it stifling. "Kasi 'yun ang offer naman nila talaga bawal ako pumunta ng Philippines. Kailangan bawat galaw ko bawal, sobrang kulit talaga ako. Sa Korea grabe, mahigpit parang walang freedom. Eh ang ugali ko, ang personality ko ay parang Pilipino na talaga ako eh, so nag-decide na ako na mag-stay dito," he related. More than anything, Ryan is grateful that opportunities continue to come his way here. "Nag-ge-guest ako sa iba-ibang show. Nag-translator ako kay Sen. (Manny) Pacquiao sa 'Infinity Challenge.' Nag-guest ako sa documentary, nag-ge-guest ako sa mga travel shows," he noted. "Ngayon nag-o-offer sa akin ng mga teleserye, mga sidekick. Hindi ako nagpaalam sa iyo, kaya ako nag-braces. Kasi gusto ng mga director doon ay perfect ang ngipin bago ako magsalang sa mga movie nila. May kinukuha sa akin na movie, teleserye, eh nag-pandemic bigla. So 'yung mga ganoon tatanggapin ko na direk." Lauren is hopeful to see Ryan act. "Excited kaming makita sa K-drama," he told him. Ryan reiterated: "Guest guest lang, pero gusto ko talaga nakatira dito." Asked if he didn't regret his decision, Ryan gave an affirmative response, assuring he is happy where he is right now. "Masarap sa puso. Feel at home na ako."
