Sen. Panfilo ‘Ping” Lacson at 73 may be the oldest among the 2022 presidential aspirants but his fitness to withstand the rigors of a national campasaign has never been doubted.

Lacson is 30 years more senior PROMDI's Sen. Manny Pacquiao, who at 43 is the youngest presidential aspirant.

However, the Cavite-born Lacson still has what it takes to win a "push up" challenge from much younger men, one of his campaign staff boasted.

In a press briefing in Lingayen City, Pangasinan, Lacson was asked about the state of his health heading into the official campaign period for the May 9, 2022 polls starting in February, 2022.

"Ako, basta alam ko ‘nung huling (All I know is that based on my last) wellness ko, ang (my) body age ko (is) 53 e. So, 20 years younger," said Lacson who also barnstormed through Baguio City and La Trinidad in Benguet province on Saturday before going down to Lingayen.

The ageless former Philippine National Police chief has been making the rounds in various parts of the country almost everyday to present to the people the platform of government that he and running mate Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III are offering.

Despite the hectic schedule, many in the campaign staff noticed that Lacson remained energetic and appeared tireless in every stop they make.

Lacson is the most senior among the presidential aspirants, followed by Partido Federal ng Pilipinas standard bearer, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr who is 64.

Third eldest is Partido Lakas ng Masa’s Leodegario “Ka Leody” De Guzman, 62, then Vice President Leni Robredo who is 56.

Manila Mayor and Aksyon Demokratiko bet Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso is 47, making him the third oldest presidential bet.

Underscoring his statement on his body age, the Partido Reporma chairman showed his trim figure on stage as he addressed over 3,000 Lingayen residents and supporters led by City Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil, a fellow former police general like Lacson, at the packed Lingayen Civic Center.

While Lacson has admitted that he had thoughts of retiring after his latest term in the Senate ends in June 2022, he was urged by Sotto, who is also 73, to try a second time in running for the presidency so together they could fix the government and give Filipinos the true service they deserve.

“We always regard leadership in this country as a calling. It is an obligation, a responsibility to the Filipino people. We do not think of leadership as an obsession, because if you are obsessed, you will tumble over and do everything just to get the position," Lacson added.

Prior to his Pangasinan visit, Lacson also attended the 50th anniversary reunion of his Philippine Military Academy "Matatag" Class of 1971 at the PMA campus in Baguio, besides meeting with Sangguniang Kabataan members and city Mayor Benjamin Magalong on a hectic day in the country's summer capital.
