Malacañang is looking forward to a fair and swift trial of National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) lead convenor Liza Maza and three other former lawmakers in connection the murder charges filed against them.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque
(CAMILLE ANTE / MANILA BULLETIN) Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque acknowledged that Maza was still a Cabinet member, but the Palace would defer to the court to decide on her pending case. "National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) Secretary Liza Maza remains a member of the Cabinet unless there is a directive from the President stating otherwise,” Roque said. "As far as we are concerned, all aspects of this case are in the hands of the court and we look forward to an impartial and expeditious trial,” he added. Roque also distanced from the P1-million reward for any information leading to the arrest of Maza and three others. "On the P1-million reward offered, that is a private initiative," he said. A Nueva Ecija court recently issued arrest warrants against Maza and former party-list congressmen Satur Ocampo, Rafael Mariano and Teddy Casiño for murder complaint filed 2006. They have denied the charges. A group called Citizens' Crime Watch has offered a total P1 million to anyone who can pinpoint the whereabouts of the four former lawmakers. Malacañang earlier urged Maza and three others to surrender and face the charges in court.
