Mayor Vico slams newly elected barangay captain for disrespecting TPMO officers
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto could not hide his anger and frustration toward newly elected Barangay Dela Paz Captain Dietmar "Akaw" Romualdez for allegedly confronting and disrespecting the city's Traffic and Parking Management Office (TPMO) enforcers during their operation in the barangay on Thursday, Nov. 16.

Mayor Vico Sotto
According to Sotto, the TPMO enforcers flagged down a motorcycle rider for not wearing a helmet and only carrying a student permit as proof of license.
The rider then called up Captain Akaw to prevent the TMO enforcers from apprehnending him.
The captain allegedly confronted the officers, prompting them to report him to Sotto.
"Unang araw palang na nag-assume ng office si Kapitan Akaw eh ganyan na agad 'yung ginagawa. Nagsabi sa TPMO natin na pag mag-ooperate ang TPMO sa Barangay Dela Paz eh kailangan daw tumimbre muna sakanya, kailangan daw mag-abiso muna sakanya (This is the first day of assumption to office and yet this is what he did. Captain Akaw told our TPMO officers to inform him beforehand if ever they have an operation in Barangay Dela Paz)," Sotto angrily said in an interview.
"First day of office n'ya may tatawag sakanya tapos sasabihin n'yang hindi dapat hulihin yan? Anong klaseng tao 'yan? Anong klaseng opisyales 'yan? Anong klaseng lider 'yan? Ang lider dapat s'ya ang unang sumusunod sa batas (On the first day of his office, someone will call him and he will say that that person should not be apprehended? What kind of human being is he? What kind of leader is he? What kind of official is he? A leader should be the first one to follow the rules)," he added.
The mayor explained that as long as his personnel are right and doing their jobs properly, he will stand up for them.
"Napakabastos, binabastos ang mga tao natin. Ako ang mga tao natin basta tama ang huli, sagot ko sila. Hindi pulitika ang pinag-uusapan natin dito kung panalo s'ya, panalo s'ya walang problema. Pero matuto s'yang rumespeto. Gumalang s'ya sa otoridad, galangin nya ang TPMO, galangin nya ang local government ng Pasig (That's very disrespectful. He is disrespecting our personnel. As long as our personnel are making apprehension properly and doing their jobs right, I will answer for them. We are not talking about politics. If he won the election then he won, but he should learn to respect. He should respect the authority, respect the TPMO, respect the local government of Pasig)," Sotto stressed.
"Pag may mali ang TPMO enforcer (lalo na sa kotong), tinatanggal o suspendido sila. Pero pag tama ang ginagawa nila, sagot ko sila. Kahit mayor pa ang natiketan, pag tama ang huli, respetuhin (If the TPMO enforcer did something wrong (especially bribery), they will immediately be fired or suspended. But as long as they are doing their jobs right, I will answer for them. Even if the mayor is the one apprehended, as long as his/her apprehension is correct, then respect it)," the local chief noted.
He then reminded the public to always respect and follow the enforcers, persons in authority, and uniformed personnel who are mandated and authorized by law to enforce traffic laws.
Romualdez has yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
