Church in honor of Saint John Paul II inaugurated in Bataan

Papal Nuncio Archbishop Charles John Brown led the recent inauguration of a church in Hermosa, Bataan in honor of popular saint, Saint John Paul II.

In his message, the Papal envoy encouraged the faithful to live out and follow the example of the well venerated saint who paid a visit to Bataan during his pontificate to visit the Indochinese refugees in 1981.

“We remember Saint John Paul II in a very special way, his love and affection for the refugees that Filipinos should continue to live,” Brown said over Radio Veritas.

St. John Paul II visited the refugee camp in Morong, Bataan on Feb. 21, 1981. In memory of his visit, the Diocese of Balanga built a church, the Diocesan Shrine of Saint John Paul II, in Hermosa, Bataan.

Balanga Bishop Ruperto C. Santos said, the church will serve as a symbol and a reminder that Filipinos are open and willing to help and accept those who are in need.

“This is a reminder that we have a home, that the country, particularly, Bataan is willing to accept those who are longing to spend time with the Lord through this church,” Santos said.

Rev. Fr. Antonio Quintos Jr. will serve as the parish priest. He will be assisted by Rev. Fr. Anthony Sibug. The priests expressed their gratitude to all those who donated for the construction of the church.

Local officials led by Governor Albert Garcia, town mayors, and other local government representatives also attended the inauguration.
