PAF chief eyes development of air bases in Palawan

Lt. Gen. Stephen Parreño, commanding general of the Philippine Air Force (PAF), flew to Rizal, Palawan recently for a series of collaborative engagements on security enhancement and base development efforts.

Parreño boarded a PZL W-3A Sokol multipurpose combat helicopter and paid a courtesy call on Rizal, Palawan Mayor Norman Ong “to discuss salient matters and explore opportunities for partnerships towards the area’s development.”

The PAF chief also visited the personnel of Tactical Advance Command Post (TACP) Rizal under the command of Tactical Operations Group (TOG) 7.

He then made an ocular inspection of Tarumpitao Point Military Reservation and Tarumpitao Airstrip where he met with army and marine troops.

“The collaborative visit and inspection are part of the PAF’s contribution to the government’s strategic basing initiatives for the enhancement of national and regional security,” PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo said on Wednesday, Oct. 25.

Palawan is home to one of the four newly established sites for the expansion of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) between the Philippines and United States.

The four new EDCA locations are Balabac, Palawan; Naval Base Camilo Osias in Santa Ana, Cagayan; Lal-lo Airport in Cagayan; and Camp Melchor Dela Cruz in Gamu, Isabela.
