PNP disputes PH ranking as 4th most dangerous, invites foreign critics to live here

Oscar Albayalde said there have been significant improvements in the country's peace and order due to the success of the intensified operations against illegal drugs. "I think that is unfounded. That cannot be covered by data. I really don't know what is their basis for saying that," said Albayalde. In its report, the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data (ACLED) stated that the drug war has accounted for 75 percent of the killings of civilians they have monitored. "President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs has driven this violence, with alleged drug suspects accounting for almost 75 percent of this year’s civilian deaths,” ACLED stated. “In addition to operations against drug suspects, political rivalries drive anti-civilian violence in the country as well,” it added. India topped the ranking followed by Syria and Yemen. But Albayalde countered ACLED ranking by another survey conducted by HSBC which showed the Philippines to be 24th among countries in the world that is safe to live and do business. "They (ACLED) probably based it on what the critics would always say. It is unfortunate that it is our fellow Filipinos who taint the image of their own country," said Albayalde. Aside from the decline in crime rate, the official said that the PNP has good crime solution efficiency. Cases of homicide and murder which remain unsolved, however, are continuously being investigated, according to Albayalde. The PNP, however, does not release anymore the number of homicide and murder cases they investigated and solved. The PNP Chief then challenged the people in ACLED to go to the Philippines to personally observe the peace and order situation in the country. "We challenge these people to come here and live here and see for themselves how peaceful the Philippines is," said Albayalde.
