Gunrunners killed in Quezon City Five suspected members of a gunrunning syndicate were killed in a shootout with police operatives during a buy-bust operation in Barangay Greater Fairview, Quezon City on Tuesday. One of the fatalities was identified by the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) as Michael Desuyo, who was said to be between 45 to 50 years old. The four others remain unidentified. QCPD Director, Police Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel Jr., said that members of the District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) received information regarding the group's involvement in gunrunning activities. According to the report, a police operative posed as a buyer during the operation at around 5:10 in the afternoon at De Vega Compound, Dahlia corner Iris Streets, Barangay Fairview. During the transaction, the suspects sensed that they were dealing with an undercover cop. Police said that the suspects pulled out their firearms and fired at the police operatives, hitting one of them on the left shoulder. He was then rushed to the FEU Medical Center for medical attention. The rest of the police engaged the suspects in a shootout that resulted to their deaths. They seized a total of 15 Armscor Caliber .38 revolvers, one Remington 1911 caliber .45 pistol loaded with three pieces of live ammunition, one Springfield caliber .45 pistol, several pieces of ammunition and P95,000 worth of boodle money used during the operation. (Dhel Nazario) Motorcycle riding gunmen kills Makati cop A Makati cop was gunned down by two motorcycle-riding suspects in Malate, Manila while on his way to work Wednesday morning. The fatality was identified as Senior Police Officer (SPO) 1 Reynaldo Jimenez, 53, resident of Pasay City, and assigned at the Warrant Section of Makati City Police. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the body. Initial report revealed that Jimenez, on board his black Honda Civic car, was about to cross an intersection from Arellano Avenue corner Zobel Roxas Street when suddenly two unidentified men riding a motorcycle fired shots at him at past 8 a.m. on Feb. 13. The police officer was rushed to St. Clare’s Medical Center but he was pronounced dead on arrival. Ten spent shells of .45 caliber pistol were recovered from the crime scene. According to relatives, the victim has no known enemy. Further investigation is underway to determine the persons and the motive behind the killing, on-case investigator PO 3 John Bucad of Manila Police District (MPD) Homicide Section said.  (Ria Fernandez) SPD reports accomplishments; Eleazar commends initiative The Southern Police District presented yesterday the result of their all-out drive against crime in the southern metro since the start of the election gun ban last January 13. SPD Director, Police Chief Supt. Eliseo Cruz said that their initiative yielded 85 arrests and the recovery of 90 pieces of assorted loose firearms. Cruz said that the SPD's respective stations aims to reduce crimes in identified hotspot areas by focusing in the service of arrest warrants, search warrants, apprehension and recovery of unregistered firearms, operations against illegal drugs, during checkpoint, buy bust, oplan sita and other related law enforcement operations. The Parañaque Police Station arrested 23 including one child in conflict with the law, Makati City and the Pasay City Police Stations had 19 each, Taguig City Police with 15, Muntinlupa Police and the Las Piñas Police with four, and the Pateros Police with two. Cruz noted that three people died in these operations while one each for Las Pinas, Muntinlupa and the Taguig City Police. They recovered during the operation 90 assorted firearms which include two hand grenades, .38 caliber firearms, 12 gauge shotguns, .45 caliber, .9mm, .22 caliber, .32 caliber, .32 caliber, a 357 and gun replicas. All apprehended persons underwent inquest proceedings while all the recovered items were brought to the respective police stations to form part of the evidence against the arrested suspects The feat was commended by National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Guillermo Eleazar for taking the initiative and he wanted that the same will be replicated by other police districts of the NCRPO. (Dhel Nazario) Rizal police lists accomplishments A total of 170 people including the notorious “ Senobio Group” operating in Rizal province were arrested  as authorities seized 340 grams of  suspected “ shabu” in  different police operation in Rizal Province. ( Madelynne Dominguez) Village chief succumbs to gunshot wounds; police looking involvement in the drug trade Police investigators are looking at the victim’s involvement in the illegal drug trade as the possible motive in the killing of a village chairman in Tondo, Manila on Tuesday afternoon. Marcelino Ortega, 42, married, village chairman of Barangay 199 Zone 18 District II, Manila, and resident of Pilar Street, Tondo Manila  was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle riding gunmen while Nicole Andrea Tanfelix, 16, a Grade 10 student and resident of J.T.  Santos Street, Tondo Manila was hit by a stray bullet. Investigation showed that Ortega was standing in front of the barangay hall while smoking when the suspects on board a motorcycle shot the victim at around 2:50 p.m. along Hermosa Street corner Pilar Street, Tondo, Manila. While the other victim, Tanfelix was walking on her way home from school was hit by a stray bullet on her right thigh. She was brought to Ospital ng Tondo. Ortega sustained gunshot wounds in different parts of his body and was declared dead on arrival by attending emergency personnel. Police said the suspects fled towards Jose Abad Santos Avenue. National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Guillermo Eleazar said that they are looking at the alleged involvement of the suspect in the illegal drug trade. Recovered from the crime scene were five pieces of fired .45 caliber cartridges and two pieces of deformed fired bullets.
