The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) ordered on Tuesday all local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila to strictly enforce the 60-day price ceiling imposed on pork and chicken as directed by President Duterte.

DILG officer-in-charge (OIC) Bernardo Florece, Jr said Executive Order No. 124 was signed by the President as the public was badly burdened by the rising prices of pork and chicken in Metro Manila.
He asked the concerned LGUs to ensure that the President’s EO was followed to the hilt “to respond to the plea of ordinary Filipinos of the unreasonable price surge of pork and chicken, especially amid the COVID-19 pandemic.”
As EO 124 is only effective in Metro Manila, Florece urged the localities outside Metro Manila to activate their respective Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC) to ensure the reasonable price range of commodities.
Through the LPCC, Florece directed the LGUs to strictly monitor their public and private markets, flea markets (talipapa) in the barangays to check for possible excessive prices of the commodities.
Mandated through the DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2018-128, LPCC 'shall address or forestall and monitor exorbitant, excessive and unreasonable price increases within their jurisdiction.'
President Duterte signed EO No. 124 that placed a threshold on the prices of pork and chicken in Metro Manila with the Department of Agriculture (DA) having the option to extend it after 60 days.
With the signing of EO 124, Florece stressed the plight of the consumers will be addressed as the DILG has been flooded with reports from the public complaining about the excessive price of pork and chicken in markets.
“The EO 124 is a relief to the complaints of our countrymen," he said.
Florece warned the violators of criminal charges if they are found guilty of violating the Executive Order.
