By Christina Hermoso The Feast of Saint Expeditus (Saint Expedite), patron saint of urgent matters and against procrastination, is being celebrated Sunday, April 19. In the country, commemorative rites are traditionally held at the Saint Andrew Cathedral on La Huerta, Parañaque City attended by devotees from around the country, particularly those who have experienced healing by invoking his intercession. Now on its 25th year, the Society of St. Expeditus organizes activities at the cathedral every year, including a healing mass in honor of the Greek martyr. Devotees who had experienced healing through the intercession of the miraculous saint usually share their stories. Often invoked against lawsuits, procrastination and for urgent cases, there are no precise details on the life of St. Expeditus except for a little information on him in the martyrologies, a catalog or list of martyrs. It was believed that he lived in the fourth century. He was a Roman soldier that is why most images of the saint show him dressed like a soldier. He was believed to have died a martyr for Christ on April 19, 303 in Melitene, now Malatya in Turkey.
