Over 600 cans of Ma Ling from China seized from Manila grocery store

A total of 655 cans of Ma Ling that came from China were seized by the Manila Veterinary Inspection Board (VIB) at a mini grocery store in Tondo, Manila on Monday afternoon. (Manila Public Information Office/MANILA BULLETIN) (Manila Public Information Office/MANILA BULLETIN)
The operation was conducted by the Manila VIB Enforcement Squad led by VIB officer-in-charge Dr. Nicanor Santos Jr.
In 2019, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) temporarily banned the importation, distribution, and sale of pork meat products from at least 20 countries, including China, amid the threat of African swine flu, avian influenza, and foot and mouth disease.
The other countries covered by the ban on pork meat products include Hong Kong, North Korea, Laos, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Vietnam, Zambia, South Africa, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Mongolia, Moldova, and Belgium.
According to the World Health Organization, African swine flu “is a highly contagious hemorrhagic disease of pigs, warthogs, European wild boar, and American wild pigs.”
Although it poses no threat to human health, it can cause "major economic loss to swine industries."
