BAGUIO CITY -- No illegal drugs or any drugs paraphernalia were found during the conduct of a greyhound operation inside the detention cells at the Baguio City Jail Male Dorm on Tuesday, Sept. 27.
This marked the second time such a surprised operation was conducted by the joint personnel from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Special Operations Unit of the Drug Enforcement Group (SOG-DEG)-Cordillera of the Philippine National Police, and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP).
In the greyhound operation conducted at the facility, personnel thoroughly check on crevices of the detention cells including personal possessions of the persons deprived of liberty (PDL).
Jail Supt. Mary Ann Ollaging-Tresmanio said the activity is part of the series of inspections done in the renewal process of the ‘drug-free facility’ certification of the Baguio City Jail Male Dorm.
She said the greyhound is the second of the three required before they can be issued a certificate.
Tresmanio said that the BJMP endeavors to make its facilities drug-free as a contribution to the government's initiative to make state-run facilities free from illegal drugs.
There are 434 (63 percent) of the PDL population facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Law of 2002.
“For now we are waiting for the result of the random drug testing of PDLs, including me and my personnel conducted by the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center Drug treatment unit," stressed Tresmanio.
