For newly-appointed Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr., cops should be able to respond to crimes or any eventualities needing their presence within three minutes.

Acorda, who assumed command of the PNP last April 24, said he will see to it that this will happen under his leadership as part of his crime prevention and solution strategies.
“What’s important in crime prevention is the police presence in every crime-prone areas. The good thing that I want to be adopted by other cities and municipalities is the command center of the QCPD [Quezon City Police District] wherein they have that three-minute response,” Acorda said during a command visit at the headquarters of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City on Friday, May 5.
“If we can do that in the whole area of Metro Manila where in the event of an incident, our police can immediate respond, then I think our crime prevention will be strengthened,” he added.
The PNP Chief challenged the NCRPO personnel to perform better as he emphasized that their accomplishments or failures reflect the image of the organization in the entire country.
He said all the cops should conduct “aggressive and honest law enforcement operations” especially in eliminating the illegal drugs menace.
“Please help me to really bring out the true image of the respectable, hones police officer,” he told the NCRPO cops.
Acorda, on the other hand, vowed to prioritize the career development and personal well-being of PNP personnel as they perform their duties, and continue the internal cleansing within the organization to weed out rogue cops.
Meanwhile, Acorda said that he will coordinate with Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Benhur Abalos to discuss the results of the evaluation on 953 third-level police officers who filed courtesy resignation as part of an internal cleansing involving high-ranking police officials allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade.
“We will come up with a common press statement with the DILG Secretary. We will compare notes and whatever is the result of the fact-finding and our SITG [Special Investigation Task Group], then we will see what the total effect of the reports will be,” Acorda said.
The National Police Commission (Napolcom) is set to release its decision on the courtesy resignation of the police officers in a few days.
