Four swimmers die in separate drowning incidents in Isabela, Ilocos Sur
CAUAYAN, CITY, Isabela -- Four persons died in separate drowning incidents in the provinces of Isabela and Ilocos Sur on Sunday, April 30.
Lieutenant Rogie Telan, deputy chief of Aurora police in Isabela, confirmed on Tuesday that three teenagers, who were sisters and cousins, drowned near the quarry site along Magat River in Barangay Camarunggayan, Aurora, Isabela on Sunday.
The three victims were identified as Divine Racraquin, 14, her older sister, Ethel Racraquin, 17, and her cousin, Faith Joy Cabanilla, 16, all residents of Barangay Arellano, Quezon, Isabela.
Telan said the victims reportedly went to the river at about 10 a.m. to take a bath but the drowning incident happened at about 12:00 noon when they were suddenly swamped by a strong current to the deep portion of the river’s water.
Upon learning of the incident, the police officers with the help of the Rescue 811, the bodies of Ethel and Faith Joy were recovered a few hours after they drowned.
The rescuers tried to revive them through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) lifesaving techniques but to no avail.
The rescuers recovered the body of Divine at about 5:00 a.m. on Monday.
Telan warned the residents to take extra precautions while swimming along the Magat River for their safety.
Meanwhile, a farmer identified as Michael Querubin Argallon, 40, a resident of Barangay Nagpanaoan, Santa, Ilocos Sur drowned and died when he was taken by a strong current of water while swimming along the Abra River, late afternoon on Sunday.
Police said the victim with his two companions went to the Abra River on board a bamboo raft to have a picnic.
The victim, who was reportedly drunk, suddenly jumped into the river’s water from the bamboo raft and went missing.
The rescuers recovered the victim’s body an hour after the incident and they rushed him to the nearest hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
