Opposition Sen. Francis ‘’Kiko’’ Pangilinan lauded Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana Thursday for firing the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) intelligence chief over erroneous red-tagging.

“Tama ang pasya na panagutin ang pagkakamali dahil imahen at reputasyon ng buong AFP bilang isang professional at disiplinado na institusyon ang nadungisan sa pangyayari,’’ Pangilinan said.
(The decision to hold liable those who commit mistakes is correct as the image of the AFP as a professional and disciplined institution is being tarnished)
Pangilinan, a former University of the Philippines (UP) student leader, had criticized the Department of National Defense for unilaterally abrogating the 1989 UP-Department of National Defense (DND) accord.
After the publication of an error-laden list alleged communist militant rebels slain by the military, Lorenzana sacked Major Gen. Alex Luna from his post as Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, J2, effective today.
The publication of an erroneous list, originating from his office OJ2, of alleged NPA killed by the military is an unforgivable lapse, Lorenzana said.
