Jennylyn Mercado on body shaming: 'Maling mentality'
Jennylyn Mercado couldn't help but speak up with a netizen seemingly validating body shaming.
The netizen tweeted: "Kung ayaw mo mapuna, alagaan mo sarili mo ganun lang yun."

Jennylyn immediately called the netizen out, saying it's the wrong mindset.
"Maling mentality Emmanuel. Unang una, bakit kailangan may mapuna? Hindi ba dapat wala to begin with? Unless someone asks you a question, don’t give unsolicited advice. Hindi ba natin kaya makipag usap sa isa’t isa na walang punahan o judgement? What I’m saying is not everyone would like to be commented sa kanilang appearance."

Jennylyn admitted feeling disappointed reading such, knowing there are people who will get affected by it.
"It shouldn’t be the case," she said. "May mas malalim pa na usapan dito tungkol sa pag-equate ng worth ng tao sa kanilang physical appearance."
In another tweet, Jennylyn aired her agreement with an online user who attested how comments on physical appearance among other things could crush one's confidence.
Shared the netizen, "I stopped going to major family occasions because of this. My aunts’ favorite question is, 'O ano, mahirap ka pa rin?' Closely followed by, 'Magpapayat ka na. Ok lang na pangit basta sexy.' It’s easier to isolate myself from them than to pretend their words don’t hurt."
Jennylyn advised that the latter shouldn't let other people dictate how she lives her life.
"Awww Bessie... Hindi ko alam what I can say to help... I know it hurts and it’s hard...Kapit lang. better days are ahead."
