Andersson, market area director, Volvo Cars APEC Region. Volvo Philippines completes its XC lineup of crossover SUVs with the arrival of the XC40, their newest and most compact yet. The new addition was unveiled at the Sunset Bar of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza to special guests and members of the media. Present at the event were Atty. Albert B. Arcilla, Volvo Philippines president and CEO, and Miss Anette E. Andersson, Volvo Cars APEC Region, market area director. Volvo says the new model will bring a new standard of safety and user experience to the small SUV premium segment. With that in mind, it comes with a whole suite of safety features from the familiar City Safety full auto brake systems, to additions like the, 360° Camera, to Cross Traffic Alert with auto brake, and Run Off Road protection; a system automatically tightens passenger restraints if it detects the vehicle leaving the roadway, such as falling off the shoulder or elevated highway. “Modern city life presents complex challenges for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and other road users. While our safety and driver assistance systems actively identify and mitigate potential conflicts, you as a driver can relax more and therefore enjoy city driving,” said Malin Ekholm, Vice President Volvo Cars Safety Center in a statement. The XC40 is the first to be built upon Volvo's Compact Modular Architecture platform gleamed from expertise gained from developing its Scalable Product Architecture platform used by the XC60 and XC90. 030819Volvo1 Inside, the XC40 features a very familiar interior similar to the XC60 and XC90. It features a fully digital instrument cluster and a large, portrait-oriented touch screen infotainment system, which Volvo calls Sensus. It also includes Android Auto and Apple Carplay integration for phones, as well as wireless charging. Propelling it forward is a choice of two engines: the 2.0-liter four-cylinder T5 turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 247-PS and and 350-Nm of torque, and the 2.0-liter four-cylinder D3 turbodiesel capable of 150 PS and 320Nm. Volvo will be offering the XC40 in three trim levels. The top-of-the-line XC40 T5 AWD R-Design is priced at P3,895,000; the XC40 D3 R-Design is set at P3,495,000; while the XC40 D3 Momentum will be pegged at P3,350,000. While it is new to our country, the XC40 has already been awarded the Women’s World Car of the Year 2018. 030819volvo3 “The XC40 is our first car in this rapidly growing segment and has a clear focus on navigating today’s hectic city environments. The new XC40 will offer the best possible safety standards combined with an easy-to-use interface and convenient connected services,” said Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive in a statement. The new XC40 is now available at all Volvo dealerships nationwide. Text and photos by Iñigo S. Roces
