The first accident occurred in Barangay Sta. Lucia in Sablayan town of Occidental Mindoro where a barangay tanod identified as Ricardo Ladringan and his wife Maribel died after they were hit by a Toyota Innova at around 6 a.m. on Saturday.
Lt. Col. Imelda Tolentino, director of the MIMAROPA (Mindoro Occidental and Oriental, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) regional police, said the driver of the car, identified as 56-year old Roberto San Jose, was immediately placed under police custody.
Tolentino said the couple died due to serious injuries they suffered while the driver of the car, a minister of a religious group, sustained minor injuries.
The official said the accident happened while the Innova’s driver was overtaking another vehicle. He lost control of the steering wheel and eventually hit the couple who were reportedly about to board their motorcycle.
In Jones town of Isabela, motorcycle rider Angel E. Bolusan and his two backriders identified as Evangelyn Salvador Ann Claire Marie Camarao died when they were hit by a pick-up vehicle.
A report reaching Camp Crame in Quezon City disclosed that the pick-up was overtaking another car when the driver identified a Sonny Boy Matias hit the motorcycle that was travelling in the opposite lane.
The driver of the car is reportedly a member of the Philippine Army.
The three victims were taken to the nearby hospital but they were declared dead on arrival.
