ABS-CBN launches digital TV for android phones

Loyola ABS-CBN, the first network in the country to go digital, announced the nationwide rollout of ABS-CBN TVplus Go in a bid to accelerate its digital migration in support of the government’s thrust to switch off analog transmission. The firm said this move also supports Filipinos by giving them affordable access to entertainment on-the-go. ABS-CBN TVplus Go is the on-the-go version of the popular TVplus box, and turns Android smartphones into a “handheld TV” without consuming mobile data by acting as a digital TV broadcast receiver. So now, viewers can enjoy ABS-CBN shows outdoor on their Android phones with TVplus Go as much as they do on their TV’s at home with TVplus. Primarily targeting Filipino commuters who have no time to catch their favorite ABS-CBN shows and channels at home, TVplus Go offers ABS-CBN, ABS-CBN S+A, DZMM TeleRadyo, as well as TVplus exclusive channels CineMo, YeY, MYX, Knowledge Channel, Asianovela Channel, Movie Central, Jeepney TV, and O Shopping without data charges. TVplus Go works with USB-OTG Android phones with a micro USB port (type-C port may function using a micro USB-OTG adaptor with data support) and a few other base specifications, such as Android 5.0 operating system or higher, 1GB RAM or higher, and a dual-core processor or higher. To make it more accessible, ABS-CBN has made the digital product available in all branches of SM Hypermarket, SM Savemore, SM Department Store Gadget Hub, SM Business Center, SM Appliance, Robinson’s Appliance, Abensons, Villman, Silicon Valley, DIY, Handyman, and Puregold nationwide. ABS-CBN TVplus Go works in areas where digital TV signal is available, including Metro Manila, Rizal, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Batangas, Tarlac, Pangasinan, Baguio City, Cavite, Laguna, Iloilo City, Bacolod City, Metro Cebu, Cagayan de Oro City, and Davao City. ABS-CBN TVplus Go follows the success of ABS-CBN’s innovations—ABS-CBN TVplus, which made the company the country’s pioneer in digital terrestrial television when it was launched in 2015, has already sold over 8 million boxes as of July 2019; and iWant, a streaming app for Filipino movies and TV shows launched last year, has already been downloaded 11.3 million times.
