Wearing of face masks in public, PUVs now mandatory in Cebu City

(REUTERS/Feline Lim/MANILA BULLETIN) (REUTERS/Feline Lim/FILE PHOTO/MANILA BULLETIN) City Mayor Edgardo Labella issued on Wednesday, April 1, Executive Order No. 66, “requiring the wearing of masks by all persons in public places within the territorial jurisdiction of the City of Cebu.” Labella said the order was part of the precautionary and safety measures against the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID 19). Labella said the city now has the most confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Central Visayas with 20, including four deaths. The EO stated that face masks may include surgical masks, cloth masks, bandanas, washable masks, N-95 masks, among others. Labella ordered the police, barangay officials and force multipliers to strictly enforce the mandatory wearing of face masks. The EO stated that violators will be penalized under Section 10 of the Republic Act 11332 or the Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act. The city has been placed under enhanced community quarantine and will last until April 28.
