KIDAPAWAN CITY – North Cotabato-based medical facilities serving persons under investigation (PUIs) suspected of being infected with the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) started receiving on Sunday weekly rations of roasted free-range chicken donated by the family of Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) Chairman Emmanuel Pinol.

“This is motivating extra miles of works for us,” a nurse at the Integrated Provincial Hospital (IPH) here told The Manila Bulletin Sunday night, referring to a pack of five roasted chicken she and her colleagues received.
IPH and eight other hospitals here and nearby towns in North Cotabato received five roasted free-range chicken each from the initial delivery made by the Pinol family.
The eight other recipients included the district hospitals in Arakan Valley, New Cebu, Mlang and Tulunan towns, and the private-run Kidapawan Medical Specialist, Kidapawan Doctors and City Hospitals here.
The recipient-hospitals were “selected based on reports that they take in patients showing symptoms of COVID-19 like high fever and coughing,” Piñol said.
“Pasensya na po, ito lang ang kaya ko,” Piñol said in an online statement.
Manok Pinoy is a free-ranged variety of chicken developed for over a decade by Piñol in his family farm at Barangay Paco here.
“If your hospital is in the vicinity of my farm accepting patients with COVID-19 like symptoms but was not included in the list (of 9 recipients), please message me. You will have your Manok Pinoy lechon next Sunday,” he said, noting a feedback that “other private hospitals are turning away patients with similar manifestations.”
Pinol’s announcement was also his form of thanksgiving after he received a clean bill of health, showing that he tested negative for the coronavirus after his self-quarantine following his attendance in a halal forum in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia early March.
