The conversion of the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna into a 68-bed mega quarantine facility is expected to be completed by May 25, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said, following an inspection Thursday.

The new health facility that will cater to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) suspected patients is being checked for eventual completion so it may be open for service, said Undersecretary Emil Sadain.
The 68-bed facility will cater to patients from the province of Laguna and other areas in the Southern Tagalog Region.
Nursing stations, sanitation chambers, and designated storage areas will also be constructed within the sports venue.
The repurposing of Alonte Sports Arena into a quarantine center, according to Sadain, is targeted to be turned over by Monday, May 25, to the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).
Once completed, the Alonte Sports Arena will be the 10th mega quarantine facility established by the government to augment hospitals handling COVID-19 cases.
