Korean among 8 hurt by firecrackers in Caraga

By Mike U. Crismundo Butuan City — A Korean national was among the eight victims of firecracker-related injuries during the Yuletide Season in Caraga region. Dong Kun Oh, 48, who is temporarily residing at the Capitol Site of Barangay Washington in Surigao City was reportedly injured in a firecracker incident at around 4 a.m. January 1. Four of the other victims were aged seven to 16. Two were from Butuan City; one from Surigao City and another from Las Nieves town, Agusan del Norte. Two of the injured minors were hit at their right eyes by still unidentified flying firecrackers on the New Year’s Day in Purok 8, Barangay Los Angeles, Butuan City; and Purok 3, Barangay Tinakunon, Las Nieves town, Agusan del Norte while others had finger injury. The victims were immediately brought to Butuan Doctors Hospital for medical treatment. The three other victims were recorded during the Christmas Day celebration. Officials from the regional office of the Department of Health (DOH 13) and Northeastern Mindanao Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) disclosed that the firecracker-related incidents in year 2017 were very much lower compared to 2016 and 2015. “The full cooperation of all Caraganons made our region generally peaceful during the Yuletide celebrations, with the significant decrease of firecracker-related injuries and absence of violent incidents perpetrated by lawless elements,” PRO 13 Regional Spokesperson Chief Insp, Renel E. Serrano told The Manila Bulletin on Tuesday.
