By Emmie V. Abadilla 3 To maintain its A350-900 fleet meant for long-haul travel to North America and Europe,  Philippine Airlines (PAL) has opted for the Airbus Flight Hour Services (FHS) solutions. So far, the FHS-Components Maintenance contract, which the flag carrier signed with Airbus, was the first comprehensive maintenance solution in the Asia-Pacific region exclusive to PAL’s fleet of six A350-900s. And notably, the Airbus FHS, powered by Skywise, provides the highest reliability for operators of the A350. Under the agreement, Airbus will handle component services, repair, warehousing and transportation for PAL, supported by Airbus FHS pools in Hong-Kong. The contract allows for a proactive component engineering that enables airlines to predict in-service issues, improving operations by reducing delays, as well as simplifying troubleshooting. The Airbus FHS, strengthened by Airbus’ data platform Skywise, takes advantage of state-of -the- art data hosting and analytics to optimise the use of the airline's fleet. This new service harnesses ‘big data’ to enhance levels of operational performance. PAL will receive the first of six A350- 900 this July and expects the FHS contract to support its operations to New York and other long-haul service to North America and Europe. Airbus FHS’ scope encompasses fully integrated component services, aircraft engineering and maintenance management, enabling the highest levels of aircraft availability and dispatch performance. Through FHS, airlines can leverage Airbus' wide and flexible portfolio of products and services, supported by its global team of aerospace professionals. Airbus is a global leader in aeronautics, space and related services. In 2017 it generated reported revenues of €67 billion - or €59 billion,  and employed a workforce of 129,000. Airbus offers the most comprehensive range of passenger airliners from 100 to more than 600 seats. Airbus is also a European leader providing tanker, combat, transport and mission aircraft, as well as one of the world’s leading space companies. In helicopters, Airbus claims to have the most efficient civil and military rotorcraft solutions worldwide.
