6 retiring PNP officials receive PMA Alumnus Award

Six senior police officials who are set to bow out of service in the next few months were given retirement honors at Camp Crame in Quezon City as it is prohibited at their alma mater, the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).

The senior officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP), led by General Archie Francisco Gamboa, were given awards for distinguished service, according to PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac.

Gamboa, the third member of PMA Class 1986 who occupied the top police post, is set to retire on September 2.

He was awarded the ‘Ulirang Alumnus ng Akademya’ for "exceptional leadership and dedication that brought honor to his Alma Mater."

“Deeply honored and very grateful to receive the Outstanding PMA Alumnus Award: Ulirang Alumnus ng Akademya for “exceptional leadership and dedication that brought honor” to the PMA,” said Gamboa in his Twitter post.

The award was presented by Vice Admiral Allan Ferdinand Cusi, the PMA Superintendent.

It was recalled that the retirement honors for Gamboa was not allowed at the PMA this month due to the strict implementation of measures against the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) in Baguio City.

Gamboa was accused of holding a party at the PNP Chief cottage in Baguio City, an allegation he denied.

Aside from Gamboa, also awarded were his classmates Lt. Gen. Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, the current PNP Deputy Chief for Administration who is set to retire in November; and Maj. Gen. Reynaldo Biay, Director for Personnel and Records Management.

Awards were also given to Maj. Gen. Elmo Francis Sarona, Director for Investigation and Detective Management; Maj. Gen. Amador Corpuz, Director for Human Resource and Doctrine Development; and Maj. Gen. Timoteo Pacleb, Director for Research and Development.

They all received the Outstanding PMA Alumnus Award "Dangal ng Akademya" at the ceremony.
