CEBU CITY – Fifteen more healthcare workers at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) were found to be positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, information officer of the Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH-7), said that with the recent addition, the number of COVID-19 positives in VSMMC had reached 33.
Infected with the virus were 12 nurses, nine doctors, eight institutional workers, two nursing attendants, one radiology technologist and a security guard.
Loreche said 10 of the patients were symptomatic.
“They were already admitted and isolated,” said Loreche.
The infected healthcare workers were assigned at the hospital’s operating rooms (ORs).
The VSMMC has temporarily closed its ORs for general cleaning and decontamination.
“VSMMC is in constant coordination with all partner hospitals in the management of patients in need of medical care. Once again, we are humbly appealing for the public’s kind consideration as we are ensuring that all infection prevention and control protocols are in place, keeping in mind the safety and protection of our patients and medical healthcare workers,” read the hospital’s advisory.
