The Bureau of Customs’ Environmental Protection and Compliance Division (BoC EPCD) is closely monitoring the importation and exportation of hazardous, recyclable, and other materials that require environmental permits.

The BoC EPCD, formerly known as the Environmental Protection Unit (EPU) under the Enforcement and Security Service (ESS), has on record 10 apprehensions on violations of RA 10863, the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA) and CMO 9-2015 “On the Strict Enforcement of Rules Concerning Regulated Imports” and in relation to RA 6969 “Toxic Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear Wastes.”
The apprehensions resulted in the confiscation of hazardous materials estimated to be worth at least P24,741,349.91.
The most recent accomplishment of EPCD was the seizure of refrigerant chemicals in the Manila International Container Port (MICP) with an estimated value of P4,000,000 originating from China. The shipment lacked the necessary permits and accreditation to legally import the said goods.
