Widening of two short-span bridges on Santiago-Tuguegarao Road in Cabatuan, Isabela is now underway, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced Monday.
District Engineer Editha Babaran in a statement said that two bridges in the municipality of Cabatuan are being extended into four lanes.
Diamantina Bridge and Macalaoat Bridge, which spans to 18 meters and 28.60 meters, respectively are undergoing widening works, Babaran said. A total of P50 million under the department’s Regular Infrastructure Fund for 2019 was allocated to implement the twin projects, the district engineer added.
The widening projects, Babaran said, aim to “hasten the mobility of vehicles plying along the Santiago-Tuguegarao Road route and to increase the accessibility of the residents to basic social and health services. ”
The Diamantina Bridge and Macalaoat Bridge projects, which started in July this year, are expected to be completed by Jan. 28, 2020 and Feb. 13, 2020, respectively.
Babaran furthered that the widening of the two bridges is in preparation a bigger road widening project that will stretch from the same barangays of Macalaoat to Diamantina. It is scheduled to start within the year, she said.
