Senator Bam Aquino admonished Ilocos Norte governor Imee Marcos for telling the critics of her father and the Marcos family to "move on."
Senator Paolo "Bam" Aquino IV
(Bam Aquino Facebook page / MANILA BULLETIN) In a statement, Aquino likened their families' situation to a broken relationship. "Sinaktan ka na't ninakawan, sasabihan ka pang mag move-on (They already hurt you and stole from you, yet they ask you to move-on?)," said Aquino. "Hindi ba sa mga nawasak na relasyon, ang kadalasang nagsasabing mag move on ay ang nanakit, pero ang nasaktan ay nag hahanap ng closure? (Isn't it that in broken relationships, the person who usually says move-on is the one who caused pain, while the person in pain is the one who seeks closure?)," the senator added. Aquino added that it's hard to move on from something that never had a closure, especially if the public was made to believe that the guilty party was innocent. "Klaro naman sa kasaysayan kung sino ang nagnakaw, ang nang-torture at pumatay. Napakadaling sabihin mag move on na lang, pero sa mga nasawi, napakahirap nito (Our history shows what's clear about who stole, torutured, and killed. It's easy to say move on, but for the victims, it's hard to do.) Marcos was quoted to have said that "millenials" have moved on from the issue between her family and the Aquinos, and that people her age should move on as well, adding that the conflict "happened a long time ago."
