KNOW THE PARTY-LIST REP: Rodolfo Ordanes, Senior Citizens Partylist

Senior Citizens Partylist Representative Rodolfo Ordanes (Senior Citizens Partylist website) An active  advocate of elders’ rights and protection, Congressman Rodolfo Ordanes represents over 12 million senior citizens nationwide as the Senior Citizens Partylist representative in the 19th Congress. The Coalition of Associations of Senior Citizens in the Philippines Inc. (CASCPI), also known as the Senior Citizens Partylist, is a sectoral group comprising different organizations and individuals dedicated to ensuring the welfare of almost 10 million Filipinos. Since 2003, the CASCPI has spearheaded various programs that have helped boost the livelihood and welfare of millions of senior citizens. The significant positive impact generated by these programs and initiatives has led to widespread support of senior citizens for CASCPI’s participation in the Congressional Party-List Elections. In 2007, CASCPI, under the name of the Senior Citizens PartyList, won its first seat in the Philippine House of Representatives. The group conducts programs under its mission Kalusugan, Kasayahan, and Kabuhayan — from providing free vaccination, medication, consultation, and Covid-19 prevention kits to coordinating with national agencies such as the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to find suitable work for senior citizens.  The Senior Citizens PartyList successfully passed legislation that advanced the welfare of senior citizens, such as the law creating the National Commission of Senior Citizens and the law providing for a monthly social pension for indigent senior citizens, among others — which are all vital components in the passage of the Expanded Senior Citizens Act. Ordanes currently serves as the chairman of the special congressional committee on senior citizens. Born on Dec. 12, 1952, Ordanes finished his secondary education at the Aliaga Provincial High School in 1969. He earned a degree in Commerce, majoring in Accounting at the Cabanatuan City Colleges in 1980, and obtained his master’s degree in Education Management at Zaragosa College in 2005. Before becoming a member of the House of Representatives, the 69-year-old representative was a career government official and served as one of the longest assessors in Quezon City for 32 years. In 2020, he succeeded Congressman Jun Datol as the representative of the Senior Citizens Partylist. Datol  passed away on Aug. 10 of that year. Since then, Ordanes has launched various medical, livelihood, and financial assistance programs for senior citizens and facilitated the construction of more than 80 buildings dedicated to them. Ordanes is the House committee on senior citizens chairperson and a member of the committees on suffrage and electoral reforms, transportation, and health.
