First 6 of 37 railcars from Indonesia for PNR arrive

Abadilla The Philippine National Railways (PNR) on December 11, 2019 officially unveiled the first six Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) railcars that will form two train sets to be deployed on PNR’s FTI-Tutuban and FTI-Malabon routes starting Monday next week, December 16, 2019. The train sets will add 18 to 20 trips per day to these routes, increasing operational capacity to better serve the public. The six brand-new coaches are part of the 37 railcars and 3 locomotives which PNR acquired from PT Inka of Indonesia. In total, the PNR ordered 37 rail cars from Indonesia, with 31 more coaches to be delivered from this month to February, 2020. These shall form seven train sets of four- and five-car configurations. PNR still provides the cheapest form of transportation for Filipinos and remains to be the transport mode of some 70,000 people on a daily basis. Earlier, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade commended the PNR for modernizing its train sets and expanding its services outside of Metro Manila. "This is just the start. PNR plans to extend its services to other parts of the country," he assured. Indonesian Ambassador Dr. Sinyo Harry Sarundajang, Secretary Tugade and PNR General Manager Junn Magno led yesterday's Arrival Ceremony of the DMU motor cars in Tondo, Manila.
