DOE chief to address power infra, RE Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi to discuss power infrastructure, particularly renewable energy (RE), as spike in electricity demand is seen with the implementation of the Duterte government’s Build Build program. Cusi will keynote during the POWERTRENDS 2019, the longest running energy exhibition in the Philippines, is set to open next week at the SMX Convention Center and will focus on power infrastructure as well as renewable energy, according to a statement. Organized in 1995 by Leverage International in cooperation with the Department of Energy, the two-day event is themed “The Trends Shaping Around Renewable Energy” this year. It will feature an international exhibition, a business conference, networking cocktail and technical workshops. A brief message will follow by Ambassador Bjørn Jahnsen of the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Manila. Right now, the Philippine energy sector is poised for transformation. There is a fast growing electricity demand resulting from the Build Build Build Program of the President. Along with the other 10 member countries of ASEAN, the Philippines is on track to make solar and other renewables account for 23 percent of the region’s total primary energy supply by 2025. The Philippine government is also working to improve policies and investment framework for clean energy. In line with these developments, the event will also bring together different players in these fields together with energy professionals and practitioners together with policy and law makers. (BCM)
